ALLCO Hatchery Received A New Upgrade

By | Uncategorized, Blog | No Comments
Starting off the new year, the ALLCO Hatchery received an upgrade!
We’re thrilled to share that the ALLCO Hatchery recently received two new circular storage tanks. The previous tanks on-site were significantly smaller, and these new tanks allow the hatchery to double its capacity from 25,000 fry per tank to 50,000 fry per tank, providing critical space for juvenile salmon to develop in a healthy, low-stress environment.
Juvenile salmon need adequate space and resources to grow and thrive before they migrate to the ocean. Overcrowding can lead to stress, disease, and limited access to food, all of which can negatively impact their survival rates. By increasing rearing capacity, hatcheries can ensure that young salmon have the best possible start in life.
This upgrade is a significant step toward enhancing salmon populations in local waterways. By investing in infrastructure like these tanks, more fish can be supported and contribute to the restoration of wild salmon stocks—essential for ecosystems, cultural heritage, and communities that depend on this iconic species.
Thanks to the Fisheries and Oceans Pacific Salmon Strategy Initiative grant ($50,000) for funding this upgrade.
