Cheryl Ashlie (Vice President)

Cheryl Ashlie - Vice President ARMSMy family and I have been residents of Maple Ridge since 1995. I have been married to my husband, Dean, for 37 years and we have three grown children. I grew up in East Vancouver, but have memories of driving through Maple Ridge to go to Alouette Lake, when I was a child. After marrying, Dean and I moved aboard our 42 foot sailboat, which we lived on for 14 years, while the kids were young. Moving to Maple Ridge was a simple transition from life on the boat for our family, from the perspective of having easy access to the beautiful outdoors, which was the true benefit of living on a boat on the Westcoast and which Maple Ridge also affords.

I worked at Vancouver General Hospital as a Food Service Supervisor for 14 years, but left the profession to stay home with our kids while they were young. My involvement in our children’s school’s Parent Advisory Committee drew me towards the role of a school trustee. This interest launched me into a 15 year commitment to civic politics: 9 as a school trustee and 6 as a municipal councilor. I opted to step down in 2014, so that I could focus on my personal goals and family. I am also employed in the office of MLA Doug Bing, as his constituency assistant.

Involvement in the community has encompassed volunteering with my children’s sports; Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services Board of Directors for 8 years; assisting with various charity walks and runs; assisting in the organization of the 2009 Disability Games; chair of the Community Network’s sub-committee: Substance Misuse Prevention Committee; Secretary Treasurer of the Ridge Meadows Educational Foundation. I also love to spend my time hiking, painting and spending time with family and friends.

I am very proud to have been accepted onto the board of ARMS and look forward to contributing to the great work that the board and members do to protect the Alouette and the surrounding watershed.
